Sterndrive Tips
Proper installation of Sterndrives, especially Mercruiser Bravo Series.
Before re-installing a Sterndrive, whether new, or newly serviced the following procedures should be performed;
The Monitor, (reservoir) Bottle should be removed, cleaned, and re-installed. The check valve on the Gimbal Helmet removed, cleaned, and re-installed. All lines should be flushed.
When the Sterndrive has been installed, the monitor bottle should then be brought to the proper oil level.
We are finding when servicing Sterndrives that there is overheating occurring due to sludge building up in the hoses and bottles, which prevents the proper oil level being maintained.
Also, please note, the Shift cables should be checked and adjusted with the proper tool upon installation of the Sterndrive.
Bravo sterndrives are Not meant to be shifted unless running!
Always allow the idle to return down when shifting from forward to reverse or vice versa.
